Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains, in plain language, what personal information Cosmopolitan Courier collects, why, and what choices you have.

Who we are

Cosmopolitan Courier (cosmopolitancourier.com) is published by Done Digital Pty Ltd, ABN 84 683 177 282 (“we”, “us”, “our”). We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What we collect

We collect only what we need.

Newsletter sign-up: your first name, last name and email address. Our newsletter platform, Substack, may also record whether you open our emails.
Contact and corrections form: your name, email address, topic, message and, if relevant, your company or publication and the link to a story.
Media kit request (advertisers): your name, company, resort or brand, role, work email, markets of interest, budget range, interests, timing, any message, and your consent choices.
Website usage, only if you accept analytics or advertising cookies: pages viewed, time on page, referring site, approximate location (city or region), device and browser type, and identifiers set by cookies. See our Cookie Policy.
Technical information needed to run and protect the site, such as IP address and browser details, processed by our hosting and spam-protection services.

We don’t ask for sensitive information (such as health information), and we ask you not to send it to us. You can browse the site without telling us who you are.

How we collect it

Directly from you, when you fill in a form or email us. Through cookies and similar technologies, according to the choices you make in our cookie banner. Occasionally from publicly available business sources, for example a hotel’s published contact details when we research a story.

To send media kits and discuss advertising with businesses that ask us to
With your consent, to understand how the site is used so we can improve it, and to show advertising
To keep the site secure and prevent spam and misuse

We won’t use your information for a purpose you wouldn’t reasonably expect without asking you first, unless the law requires or allows it.

Direct marketing

We send marketing emails only if you’ve asked for them, such as the newsletter or partnership news. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to stop at any time at editor@cosmopolitancourier.com. We comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). We don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information.

We share personal information only with service providers who help us run Cosmopolitan Courier, and only as much as they need:

Website hosting and security: our web host, which stores our website and the information you submit through our forms. Our forms are protected from spam by security measures built into our website, with no third-party service involved.
Email newsletter: Substack (Substack Inc.)
Analytics and advertising, only with your consent: Google Analytics and, if we use them, Google advertising services
Professional advisers, such as our accountants or lawyers, where needed

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.

Overseas disclosure

Some of the information we collect is stored on servers located outside Australia, including those of Google (United States), our web host, and Substack, our newsletter platform (United States). We take reasonable steps to make sure they handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Keeping it secure

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, including access controls, secure (HTTPS) connections and reputable providers. We keep information only as long as we need it. Form enquiries are kept for up to 24 months, then deleted or de-identified unless an ongoing relationship requires otherwise. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we’ll notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.

Access and correction

You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it. Email editor@cosmopolitancourier.com. We’ll acknowledge within three business days and respond in full within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity, and in limited cases the law allows us to decline, in which case we’ll explain why.

Children

Cosmopolitan Courier is written for adults. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have, please contact us and we’ll delete it.

Complaints

If you’re concerned about how we’ve handled your personal information, please contact us first at editor@cosmopolitancourier.com. We’ll acknowledge within three business days and respond in full within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
